New to agency work?
Learn more about the process here
Ok, so you want to sign up to an agency to find some work, but are not quite sure how to go about it and what working for an agency actually means?
Firstly, we are here to match you and your skills to available work placements which our clients have asked us to fill on their behalf. If we match you to a specific role, you will be working within the role as an employee of Smith & Reed and not for the company you are physically working at.
This means that we need to have some processes in place to make sure you are happy working for us and that our clients are happy with the candidate (you) we have supplied.
Step 1. Registration
We will need to see you for an informal chat to discuss how the process works and to complete our simple application form. We cannot offer any temporary employment before we have met with you and have collected the below information, so please ensure that you bring along:
Passport
OR Birth Certificate (must be the full length version)
Proof of National Insurance Number
Bank Details
Name and preferably email addresses-or Postal addresses of two referees (they can be personal, previous employer or academic)
Valid CRB certificate if you have one
You can download our application pack from this link: App pack pdf download and complete it in advance to save time.
You do not need an appointment, but it can get busy here so to avoid delays call us to pre-book an appointment.
We are open Monday’s - Friday’s from 8:30am-5.30pm.
Step 2. Meet your consultant
You will be allocated a consultant (let's call him Dave) who will work on your behalf to find you employment and who will become the point of contact for any queries that you may have while out working.
Dave will go through your application pack with you and will ask you about your past employment, work experience, qualifications and training. Dave will be trying to gain an understanding as to what type of work will suit you so try and be as open as possible. He is not here to judge you and all information is treated as confidential.
Step 3. Stay in contact
It is vital that you stay in contact with your consultant. Think of Dave as your new best friend. He may need to contact you at short notice if a job arises or to change working hours at the last minute.
Remember even if your ideal job doesn't come up straight away, Dave can keep you busy within a role while he keeps looking for something else on your behalf.
So hopefully that helps, all you need to do now is come in and see us and get the registration process rolling.
:)
