My client, a bespoke engineering business near Truro, is seeking a Design Engineer for a new permanent position. The successful candidate will work alongside the Non-Domestic Design Engineer on HVAC designs for large-scale projects for both new-build and retrofit developments across a range of sectors.
Applicants must have previous experience within a similar role, demonstrable technical knowledge, high levels of conscientiousness and a keen eye for detail when working on multiple design projects. Additionally, applicants must have a relevant Engineering Degree qualification, an understanding of building physics and the ability to work with clients, suppliers and specialist subcontractors.
Key duties & responsibilities:
To assist client consultation and assist clients in creating a clear design brief
To analyse and ensure that client M&E Specifications and ERs are met
To gather construction information for existing or planned properties using a variety of resources including architects' plans, client consultation and direct surveys.
To create and develop functioning P&IDs in AutoCAD
To produce and develop design, construction and as-fitted drawings for mechanical and electrical services, external ground-arrays, site access, and infrastructure, in AutoCAD
Assess existing HVAC installations and tailor design proposals accordingly
Perform technical review of HVAC designs
Coordinate surveyors and third-party design consultants, reviewing work and ensuring that this is technically correct and meets business requirements
Perform relevant heating/cooling calculations as required
Prepare equipment schedules, produce and contribute towards mechanical and electrical specifications for GSHP installations and associated plant and equipment
Undertake and compile technical requisitions and specifications for heating/cooling systems and
HVAC equipment such as fan coil units, air handling units
Prepare controls and BMS work scopes
Ensure CDM 2015 compliance of design projects
Reporting to the Commercial Design Engineer.
Responsible for nil staff initially
Essential experience & qualifications:
Good knowledge of HVAC componentry and instrumentation and the ability to leverage this
Understanding of building physics
experience using relevant software packages such as AutoCAD, Revit and HevaComp
Relevant Engineering Degree qualification
Working knowledge of GSHP systems
At least 2 years experience in a similar role
Sound understanding of engineering principles
