My client, a bespoke engineering business near Truro, is seeking a Design Surveyor for a new permanent position. The successful candidate will be responsible for the full life cycle of allocated designs, from facilitating client design briefs to surveying, engineering calculations, M&E Design and authorising of O&M manuals and as-built records.
Applicants must have previous experience within a similar role and the ability to coach Assistant Design Surveyors and confidently liaise with clients and internal stakeholders. Additionally, an Electrical Engineering background will be essential, alongside a relevant degree and site-surveying experience.
Key duties & responsibilities:
To assist clients in developing a clear design brief
Perform inter-departmental project internal handovers
To gather and review construction information about existing or planned properties using a variety of resources including architects plans, questioning clients and direct surveys.
Author and review Risk Assessments & Method Statements for both survey and design (CDM)
Perform and facilitate and review BS EN 12831 heat loss, thermal modelling, and energy calculations
Authoring of project survey, and project design reports
Oversee and coordinate specialist subcontractors to facilitate GSHP system design
Survey and design of large and non-standard projects with little to no supervision required
Represent KCL in client design team meetings
Authoring to and adhering to design schedules
Maintaining and updating design project plans, project notes, and project log
Maintaining document control, drawing issue sheets, and updating third-party document Management Systems
Authoring GSHP M&E design drawings
Liaising with clients, subcontractors, and departments within KCL to communicate design information
Administration as required to facilitate the design process
Plan, organise and manage workload to ensure it is completed in line with project schedules and man-hour budgets
Ensure technical correctness of discipline deliverables and compliance with client specifications and project standards.
Design compilation in line with all relevant codes and standards
Ensure CDM 2015 compliance of design projects
Monthly reporting to design manager
To provide coaching and support to Assistant Design Surveyors
To coordinate 3rd party survey, design, and coordinate M&E design subcontractors
Essential experience & qualifications:
Developed understanding of building physics
Experience using relevant software packages such as AutoCAD and HevaComp
Relevant degree (Engineering/Surveying)
Working knowledge of domestic heating systems
Working knowledge of GSHP Systems
Exceptional interpersonal skills
Electrical Engineering background
