My client, a bespoke engineering business near Truro, is seeking a Design Surveyor for a new permanent position. The successful candidate will be responsible for the full life cycle of allocated designs, from facilitating client design briefs to surveying, engineering calculations, M&E Design and authorising of O&M manuals and as-built records.

Applicants must have previous experience within a similar role and the ability to coach Assistant Design Surveyors and confidently liaise with clients and internal stakeholders. Additionally, an Electrical Engineering background will be essential, alongside a relevant degree and site-surveying experience.

Key duties & responsibilities:

  • To assist clients in developing a clear design brief

  • Perform inter-departmental project internal handovers

  • To gather and review construction information about existing or planned properties using a variety of resources including architects plans, questioning clients and direct surveys.

  • Author and review Risk Assessments & Method Statements for both survey and design (CDM)

  • Perform and facilitate and review BS EN 12831 heat loss, thermal modelling, and energy calculations

  • Authoring of project survey, and project design reports

  • Oversee and coordinate specialist subcontractors to facilitate GSHP system design

  • Survey and design of large and non-standard projects with little to no supervision required

  • Represent KCL in client design team meetings

  • Authoring to and adhering to design schedules

  • Maintaining and updating design project plans, project notes, and project log

  • Maintaining document control, drawing issue sheets, and updating third-party document Management Systems

  • Authoring GSHP M&E design drawings

  • Liaising with clients, subcontractors, and departments within KCL to communicate design information

  • Administration as required to facilitate the design process

  • Plan, organise and manage workload to ensure it is completed in line with project schedules and man-hour budgets

  • Ensure technical correctness of discipline deliverables and compliance with client specifications and project standards.

  • Design compilation in line with all relevant codes and standards

  • Ensure CDM 2015 compliance of design projects

  • Monthly reporting to design manager

  • To provide coaching and support to Assistant Design Surveyors

  • To coordinate 3rd party survey, design, and coordinate M&E design subcontractors

Essential experience & qualifications:

  • Developed understanding of building physics

  • Experience using relevant software packages such as AutoCAD and HevaComp

  • Relevant degree (Engineering/Surveying)

  • Site-surveying experience

  • Working knowledge of domestic heating systems

  • Working knowledge of GSHP Systems

  • Exceptional interpersonal skills

  • Electrical Engineering background
