What does a Food & Beverage Manager do?
A Food & Beverage Manager in the UK is responsible for overseeing all operations related to the food and beverage service within a hospitality establishment, such as a hotel, restaurant, or event venue. Their main goal is to ensure that guests have an excellent dining experience while maintaining profitability and efficiency in operations. Key responsibilities include:
1. Menu Development - working with the Kitchen staff to set a menu to the establishments standards and suitable for the target customer. This will include pricing, seasonality and sustainability. A food and beverage manager will need to stay up to date on the lastest food and beverage trends to ensure their menu's stay relevant and exciting.
2. Stock & Quality Control - ensuring the kitchen and bar maintains adequate stock levels to deliver on menu, whilst keeping an eye on cost and freshness.
3. Staff Management - recruiting and training new members as well as providing leadership to kitchen and bar staff ensuring high standards are delivered.
4. Sales & Promotions - working with the marketing team to develop deals and promotions including promotional events, partnerships or special menus.
The role requires a blend of culinary knowledge, business acumen, leadership skills, and customer service excellence. Successful Food & Beverage Managers are passionate about food and drink, have strong attention to detail, and are able to lead and motivate their team to achieve high standards of service.
