What does a housekeeper do?
A Hotel Housekeeper in the UK plays a vital role in ensuring the cleanliness, hygiene, and overall appearance of the hotel's guest rooms, public areas, and sometimes back-of-house areas. Their main duties typically include:
1. Cleaning & Inspecting Guestrooms - ensure the hotel standards for cleanliness are met. Cleaning tasks include; laundry (towels & bed linen), vacuuming & steaming carpets, bathroom cleaning. Under laundry tasks a housekeeper may be required to wash and iron guests clothes on request (depending if the hotel offers this service). Any room supplies can be replenished (minibar, toiletries etc.)
2. Cleaning of Public Areas - ensure that the hotel lobby, fitness suite, hallways and bathrooms are maintained to the hotels standards.
3. Waste Disposal - appropriately dispose of hotel waste.
4. Compliance with Health & Safety - have knowledge of and remain compliant to health & safety regulations in relation to cleaning chemicals and equipment.
Hotel Housekeepers must have an eye for detail, good physical stamina, and the ability to work efficiently both independently and as part of a team. Their work is critical to the hotel's operation, impacting guest satisfaction and the overall guest experience.
