A cloud engineer is responsible for designing and deploying cloud based solutions. This can be summarised into the following common key responsibilities:

  • Deployment of Cloud Solutions & Migration

  • Managing, Monitoring & Maintenance of Cloud Systems

  • Liaise with IT & Developers

  • Cloud System Troubleshooting

  • CPD; Stay on top of recent trends

Cloud Engineer Qualifications, Skills & Experience

A cloud engineer will need to have strong technical skills, with cloud platforms including Azure & AWS, and with coding Java & Python. A skilled developer will also use IaC [Infrastructure as Code] tools to automate the deployment of cloud solutions, including Terraform & Ansible. Proven experience with Docker and other orchestration tools including Kubernetes is beneficial for a cloud engineer. As well as proven experience in these areas it can be useful for a cloud engineer to have the the certificates or qualifications such as being a Certified Solutions or Cloud Architect with AWS, Google or Azure.
