What do HGV Technician do?
HGV Technicians pare responsible for maintaining, repairing, and servicing large trucks and other heavy goods vehicles. Here are some of the key responsibilities and tasks that HGV Technicians typically handle:
Repair Work: to HGV engines, breaks, electronics etc.
Troubleshooting: utlise modern techniques and diagnostic equipment to identify problems and conduct repairs.
Servicing: scheduling and carrying out services to ensure HGV is in optimal condition and meets required safety standards
Maintenance: to identify issues with the HGV and conduct repairs, from routine checks and diagnostics.
Testing and Inspections: to ensure HGV meets required safety standards
Qualifications & Experience
Whilst practical experience & a full / clean driving license alone may be enough for some employers, certification can be gained from relevant professional bodies: Institute of the Motor Industry | IMI (theimi.org.uk). Alternatively apprenticeships or work experience can be gained to demonstrate skill and abiliyt in the area. Apprenticeships are provided by the IMI.
